Roast Master 

Amanda began her  20+ year long career as a Coffee Roasting Queen just out of college in the year 2000, under the apprenticeship of Mark Smutek, owner of Water Street Coffee Joint in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

In 2004, she relocated to sunny San Diego in search of warm beaches and epic sunsets. There, she continued her passion for coffee roasting with Pannikin Coffee & Tea, and was hired to build and run their roasting company, where she roasted coffee for all of their clients, just minutes from the beach. 

Today, she and her wife, Gloria Serna, own and operate the The Flower Pot Cafe and Bakery, as well as TLC roasters in La Jolla, Ca.They are committed to searching out the best coffee on the planet to roast. They understand that great coffee begins at the source, with organic practices that enhance the natural environment that the plants are a part of. So far, they have been blessed to travel to Costa Rica, Peru, and Colombia (Gloria’s country of origin), working on coffee farms and developing relationships with growers. 

Gloria, Amanda, and their son, Yohan, are avid coffee drinkers and attribute their passion and joy for life to Amanda’s 20 plus years of coffee roasting excellence.
