Why Organic?

Organic coffee is better for both people and the planet. It’s grown without synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or harmful additives, which helps protect the soil, air, and surrounding ecosystems. Considering that coffee is one of the most heavily traded commodities in the world, choosing organic has a meaningful impact. It supports sustainable farming practices while giving you a cleaner, more natural cup of coffee.

Is Organic Coffee Worth the Extra Money?

Absolutely.
Organic coffee supports the environment, protects farmers, and delivers a higher-quality product for you. It’s often more flavorful, aromatic, and thoughtfully produced than mass-market coffee. While it may cost a little more, the difference in quality, taste, and impact makes it well worth it.

What Does “Single Origin” Mean?

Single origin coffee comes from one specific location, often a single farm or region within a country. Places like Colombia, Costa Rica, Kenya, and Ethiopia each produce beans with unique characteristics based on their climate, elevation, and soil. Just like a single vineyard wine or single malt whiskey, single origin coffee highlights the distinct flavors of where it was grown, making each cup a unique experience.

How Does TLC Roasters Create Its Blends?

Blending coffee is an art. At TLC Roasters, we use only high-quality Arabica beans, never Robusta, to create balanced, flavorful blends. Unlike large commercial producers that pre-blend beans before roasting, we post-blend. This means we roast each single origin separately to its ideal profile, then combine them after roasting. This method allows each bean to shine individually, resulting in a more complex, aromatic, and well-balanced final cup.

What’s the Difference Between Arabica and Robusta?

The two main types of coffee beans are Arabica and Robusta, and the difference is significant.

Arabica

  • Smoother, more complex flavor (from sweet and soft to bright and tangy)
  • Grown at higher elevations
  • Requires more care and specific growing conditions
  • Higher quality overall

Robusta

  • Stronger, harsher, more bitter taste
  • Easier to grow at lower elevations
  • Higher yield and lower cost
  • Commonly used in mass-produced coffee

At TLC Roasters, we use 100% Arabica beans, because quality matters.

Is Arabica or Robusta Better?

No contest, Arabica is widely considered the superior bean. It offers better flavor, better aroma, and a more refined coffee experience. While Robusta is often used by large companies to cut costs, it simply doesn’t deliver the same level of quality. That’s why we stick to 100% Arabica, always.

What Does It Mean That TLC Roasters Is a “Micro Roaster”?

At TLC Roasters, we roast our coffee in small batches, typically under 150 pounds, allowing us to control every detail of the process. Our micro-roastery, located inside the Flower Pot Café & Bakery, is hands-on and intentionally small. Instead of relying on large-scale automation, each roast is carefully overseen by a skilled roaster to bring out the best flavor in every bean. This approach results in a fresher, more flavorful, and higher-quality cup of coffee you can truly taste.

How Does Organic Coffee Benefit Workers?

Organic farming eliminates exposure to harmful chemicals, creating a safer and healthier environment for farmers and workers. Many organic farms are also Fair Trade certified (FTO), which means better wages, improved working conditions, and more support for farming communities.
